GREENLIGHT #69: Idlewild (with "The Cotton Club" and "Pennies from Heaven")

Ann and Les were delighted and surprised by Idlewild (2006.) While both are big fans of movie musicals, neither thinks they've seen a good one in 15 years so it was a real surprise to them that the hip-hop group called "Outkast" would be the ones to make the next great Hollywood musical. Andre Benjamin and Big Boi turn out to be natural born performers and watch out for the stunning and talented Paula Patton. Plus, they got a whole slew of incredible actors and actresses to show up for wonderful cameos including Ben Vereen, Cicely Tyson, and Patti LaBelle. For their GREENLIGHT Rentals, Les recommends another movie featuring the great music of the 1930s, The Cotton Club (1984) starring Richard Gere, Gregory Hines, and Diane Lane. Ann stays with the movie musical but recommends one that deserved more credit at the box office than it received because she thinks Steve Martin, Bernadette Peters, and Christopher Walkendo amazing work in Pennies from Heaven(1981.)
