GREENLIGHT #65: World Trade Center (with "The Missing" and "Wall Street")

Ann and Les were quite relieved that World Trade Center (2006) was handled with such uncharacteristic reverence by director Oliver Stone. Mind you, both are fans of Mr. Stone but know that his are usually works of historical fiction. In this movie, the pathos was palpable. They thought Nicholas Cage and Michael Pena were quite good as the trapped firemen but the movie got it’s soul from the poignant performances of the two women, Maggie Gyllenhall and Maria Bello . For their GREENLIGHT Rentals, Les recommends a rescue movie by another unlikely director. The movie is The Missing (2003) and the director is Ron Howard. Ann picks Oliver Stone’s first work about lower Manhattan and even though it doesn’t have near the reverent tone of World Trade Center it's enjoyable nonetheless. It's called Wall Street (1987) and it contains the infamous Gordon Gekko played by Michael Douglas.
